VB | Gators Drop Key Match to Cal State LA

LOS ANGELES – The San Francisco volleyball team dropped a key match against Cal State LA (RV) at the Eagle's Nest 3-1. After dropping the first two sets 25-15 and 25-21, the Gators won the third set 25-16. SF State fought hard in the fourth set but ultimately fell 25-21.

  • Jessica Haynie had a match high 17 kills and finished with a .414 attack percentage.
  • Bekah Roth recorded five blocks.
  • The Golden Eagles had 50 kills compared to the Gators' 40.
  • SF State only had six service aces.
  • The Gators fall to 18-4 and 12-4 in the CCAA while Cal State LA improves to 15-7 and 10-4 in the CCAA.

Set One

After starting the set 3-0, Cal State LA came back to reclaim the lead and forced a Gator's time out with a 7-4 lead. The Golden Eagles built on that lead from there and claimed the first set win. The Gators weren't able to click offensively in the first set and only recorded six kills.

Set Two

The Gators kept things through the early part of the set until the Golden Eagles took a lead at 8-7 and used a 5-0 run to build the lead to 18-11. Faced with set point at 24-20, a service error from Cal State LA kept the Gators in the set. An ensuing kill from the Golden Eagles shut the door on a comeback.

Set Three

Tied 4-4, the Gators used a 8-0 scoring run to take the lead in the set. Haynie had three kills during that set. The Golden Eagles would never come within less than five the rest of the way as the Gators picked up their first set win.

Set Four

The Gators came from behind to tie the set at 13-13. Cal State LA rattled off five points to swing momentum back in their favor and take the lead. Down 23-16, kills by Izzy Issak, Roth and Drew Morris helped the Gators on a 4-0 scoring run to come within three. The Golden Eagles scored the next two kills to end the set and the match.
