SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The San Francisco State volleyball team rebounded from its first loss of the season to sweep Cal State Dominguez Hills and improve to 9-1 and 2-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association action. The Gators won with set scores of 25-20, 25-17, 25-18. The Toros fall to 0-9 on the season.
- Alhana Velasquez saw action for the first time this season and started all three sets. She finished the match with 12 kills.
- Izzy Issak, Kimberly DeBoer and Marlena Billings all started for the first time this season.
- Issak had a game and season high 13 kills. This marks the third time she has had double-digit kills this season.
- SF State held the Toros to a .138 match hitting percentage.
- Six different Gators recorded service aces. Chloe Henning recorded her first career ace.
Tied 13-13, the Gators used a 5-0 scoring run to put the match in their favor and take the set one win. The Gators had five service aces in the set while the Toros contributed to the Gator point total with two service errors.
After the Toros raced out to a 10-4 lead, the Gators responded to claim their first lead of the set at 14-13 and forced a timeout by Cal State Dominguez Hills. Kimberly DeBoer hit a service ace out of the time out and a pair of Toros' errors gave the Gators a comfortable cushion to finish the set. SF State held the Toros to a set low .026 hititng percentage.
The teams played evening throughout the third set. With a 18-16 Gator lead, the Toros called a timeout. SF State closed out the set with a 7-2 run. The final three points all came from Gator kills.
"We had a lot of people step up in positions they're not used to playing," said Head Coach Matt Hoffman. "I'm proud of the way we adapted and adjusted to roles and carried out our game plan."
The Gators host Cal State LA Saturday, September 25 (7-3/3-0 CCAA). Fans who wear purple will get a free #BEATLA sign. Students will receive free pizza between sets two and three outside in Don Nasser Family Plaza.
