SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – In front of a big home crowd, the San Francisco State volleyball team edged Cal State LA in an exciting five set match. The Gators finished the evening with set scores of 25-22, 21-25, 25-19, 20-25 and 17-15. The loss for the Golden Eagles was the first conference loss of the season.

- Chloe Henning had a huge day in front of the net and finished with eight blocks. That number tied her with eighth all-time in a single match.
- Drew Morris had a team high 11 kills while Izzy Issak was also in double-digit figures with 10.
- Despite Cal State LA holding the edge in kills 69 to 41, the Golden Eagles recorded 44 attack errors
Tied 15-15, the Gators went on a 5-0 scoring run and looked to put some distance between themselves and the Golden Eagles. The set tied up again at 21-21 but a service error and attack error from Cal State LA aided the Gators to victory.
Set two remained tight throughout the majority of the set. The Gators 21-20 slipped away when the Golden Eagles used a 5-0 scoring run to close out the set.
After tying the set at 8-8, Issak landed a kill to take the lead and the Gators never looked back. Cal State LA recorded a set high 13 attack errors.
Cal State LA was able to take advantage of miscues by SF State to take a 17-10 lead in the fourth set. The Gators were able to force some Golden Eagle Errors to come within two, but the Golden Eagles were able to close out the set with a 3-0 scoring run to force a fifth set.
The pivotal fifth set featured nine ties as neither team led by no more than three points. Drew Morris landed a kill to put the Gators at set point at 15-14 only for the Golden Eagles to respond with a kill of their own to tie the set. Cal State LA hit a service ace on the ensuing serve and hit the ball out of the court to give the Gators the victory in the final set.
"We've had a lot of battles against Cal State LA. It's really good to finally come out on top," said Head Coach Matt Hoffman. "I'm really proud of the grit we had. Coming back after the fourth set and even in the fourth set. Whole team effort."
