ARCATA, Calif. – The San Francisco State volleyball time won three close sets to pick up a road win over Humboldt State. The Gators swept with set wins of 27-25, 25-18 and 25-22.
The win tonight marks Head Coach Matt Hoffman's 50th at the helm of SF State.
- Bekah Roth led the Gators with a season high 13 kills, making it the first time this season she reached double figures in that category.
- Jessica Haynie had a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs.
- Payton Jensen had 17 assists while Kimberly DeBoer
- SF State finished the evening with 63 digs.
- Gators improve to 11-1 and 4-1 in CCAA action. Lumberjacks fall to 3-6 and 2-4 in conference.
Neither team led by more than three in a tight first set. Down 24-22, the Gators rattled off two points to take Humboldt out of match point. After Humboldt retook the lead at 25-24, Alhana Velasquez registered a kill and landed a service ace to propel the Gators to a 27-25 set win.
In the Gator's most comfortable set of the match, SF State raced out to a 7-3 lead before a timeout was called. The Lumberjacks reclaimed the lead at 12-11 but an 8-1 scoring run highlighted by back-to-back kills from Roth put the set out of reach for Humboldt State.
Down 16-15, the Gators went on a 5-0 scoring run with four of the five points coming from kills. Humboldt State would come within one at 23-22 but an attack error by the Lumberjacks proved costly and Roth landed a kill to secure the set and match win. The Lumberjacks finished the set with a .021 hitting percentage.
"Humboldt is always a tough environment to play in," said Head Coach Matt Hoffman. "Proud of the girls for withstanding it and grinding out a win."
