SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State volleyball team moved to 2-0 with a sweep of Northwest Nazarene on Saturday afternoon. The Gators set the tone early and cruised to 25-8, 25-18, 25-18 straight-set victories.
- The Gators (2-0) hit .322 in the match, including .538 in set one.
- Jessica Haynie led the Gators again with 15 kills on .452 hitting. Drew Morris added 14 kills and swung .324. As a team, SF State had 46 kills compared to 25 by NNU.
- SF State tallied seven service aces and were only aced once.
- Kimberly DeBoer had 24 assists and Payton Jensen had 11. Libero Brianna DeBoer added eight assists and led all players with 20 digs.
- NNU libero Caroline McMahon had a team-high 18 digs. Brooke Foster led the Nighthawks with seven kills.
SF State sprinted to a 13-3 start. McKenzie Lee stopped the bleeding but the Gators rattled off another six points to make it 19-4. A pair of Gators errors gave NNU its only back-to-back points but the Gators were unstoppable and hit .538 in the set.
Up one in set two, the Gators took advantage of three consecutive NNU errors to grow the lead to 8-3. From there, the lead grew to 18-10. Northwest Nazarene held off set point with three consecutive points but an NNU service error put the Gators up 2-0 in the match.
Set three was the tightest affair of the day, with the Gators leading 13-2. Another NNU error and back-to-back kills from Haynie and Bekah Roth grew the lead to four. The Gators closed out the set on a 6-2 run to complete the sweep.
"Playing back to back against the same team is not always the easiest but I was impressed with how they approached the match," said SF State Head Coach Matt Hoffman. "We came out and really executed our game plan well."
