How It Happened

In a tight set one, neither team took a lead of greater than three. With a 24-23 lead, the Pioneers had a chance to shut the door on set one with one more point, but a well placed kills by Josie Collier tied things up and took away match point. The Gators sat at set point at 28-27, but a kill by the Pioneers tied it up and gave them the serve back. A Gator error made it set point and the Pioneers landed an ace to take the first set.

The Gators took their first lead of set two off a dump by Kimberly DeBoer to make it a 14-13 set. The lead did not last long as the Pioneers responded with a kill to tie things up. SF State regained the lead at 19-18, but back-to-back kills gave the Pioneers a lead they would hold the rest of the way.

The Pioneers took their largest lead of the day at 17-11 in three, capitalizing on miscues from the Gators' attack in a 4-0 run. The Gators came within one when an attack error by the Pioneers gave the Gators the serve back down 22-21. East Bay landed a kill off the next serve and back-to-back errors from the Gators sealed the match.
