HAYWARD – The San Francisco State volleyball team fell to Cal State East Bay at Pioneer Gymnasium 3-0. The Gators were close in all three sets, dropping them with scores of 30-28, 25-22 and 25-21. Errors proved to make the difference in the match as the Gators finished with 25 attack errors compared to the Pioneer's 12.
- Gators fall to 10-8 and 6-5 in the CCAA. Pioneers improve to 15-4 and 8-3 in conference action.
- SF State finished with an attack percentage of .184 while East Bay hit at .279.
- The Gators held the advantage in kills at 48 to 41. Chloe Henning matched her career high with 13 to lead the Gators.
- SF State also held a slight advantage in points and posted 55 compared to East Bay's 53.
- Brianna DeBoer had a match-high 17 digs.
In a tight set one, neither team took a lead of greater than three. With a 24-23 lead, the Pioneers had a chance to shut the door on set one with one more point, but a well placed kills by Josie Collier tied things up and took away match point. The Gators sat at set point at 28-27, but a kill by the Pioneers tied it up and gave them the serve back. A Gator error made it set point and the Pioneers landed an ace to take the first set.
The Gators took their first lead of set two off a dump by Kimberly DeBoer to make it a 14-13 set. The lead did not last long as the Pioneers responded with a kill to tie things up. SF State regained the lead at 19-18, but back-to-back kills gave the Pioneers a lead they would hold the rest of the way.
The Pioneers took their largest lead of the day at 17-11 in three, capitalizing on miscues from the Gators' attack in a 4-0 run. The Gators came within one when an attack error by the Pioneers gave the Gators the serve back down 22-21. East Bay landed a kill off the next serve and back-to-back errors from the Gators sealed the match.
San Francisco State will head to Southern California to play Cal State San Marcos October 15 for a 1:00 p.m. match.
