SAN MARCOS – The San Francisco State volleyball team responded well from a loss and picked up a win at Cal State San Marcos at the Sports Center 3-0. The Gators picked up set wins of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-20 in the sweep.
- Gators improve to 11-8 and 7-5 in the CCAA. Cougars fall to 6-13 and 5-7 in conference action.
- SF State posted its highest hitting percentage on the road during conference action this season at .264.
- Tamiya Wilson landed 18 kills, followed by Alhana Velasquez with 11.
- Rebecca Rendahl had a season high five blocks. Kimberly DeBoer teamed up with her on four of the blocks to set a new career high.
- Gators had 10 service aces with Wilson landing a team high three.
Back-to-back kills from Velasquez highlighted a 5-0 run in the first set to reclaim the lead and put the Gators up 17-13. The Cougars would come within one point of the Gators' lead, but a kill from Josie Collier put the set at set point and Brianna DeBoer ended the set with an ace.
After starting set two behind, the Gators landed four kills during a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the set at 6-4. The Gators started to pull away for good near the end of the set, as Collier landed kills for the 23rd and 24th points and Velasquez landed one for the final point of the set.
It was all Gators to open the final set. SF State used a 6-0 run to open the set and led by as many as eight points throughout the set.
The Cougars would make it interesting at the end and came back within four at set point for the Gators. San Marcos' landed a service error to give the Gators the final point of the match.
San Francisco State will make the trip to Humboldt to play the Lumberjacks on October 20 for a 7:00 p.m. match.
