ROHNERT PARK – The San Francisco State volleyball team dropped a close match to Sonoma State at the Wolves' Den 3-1. After winning the first set 29-27, the Gators dropped the next three sets 26-24, 25-21 and 25-22. The Gators split the series with the Seawolves this season 1-1.
- Gators fall to 12-9 and 8-6 in the CCAA. Seawolves improve to 15-6 and 8-6 in the CCAA.
- The loss currently puts the Gators in seventh in the CCAA and on the outside of making the tournament.
- SF State had the advantage on kills (60 to 59) but Sonoma had the advantage on blocks (12 to 5) and aces (10 to 4).
- Josie Collier led the Gators with a career-high 18 kills. Tamiya Wilson had 17 and Alhana Velasquez had 15.
- Kimberly DeBoer had 50 assists, marking the second time she had 50 or more in a match. The previous time also came against Sonoma.
Both teams traded leads throughout the first set with neither team taking a lead by more than three points. Sonoma reached set point at 24-21, but the Gators rallied to tie the match at 24-24 and make it set point with a kill from Rebecca Rendahl. A couple more points were traded between the two teams before the Gators landed a kill and an Sonoma attack error ended the set.
The Gators came back by as many as six-points to tie set two 24-24 but a kill followed by a service ace from Sonoma closed the set.
After falling behind 4-0 to open set three, the Gators used a 4-0 run to tie things up at seven all. Down 23-20, Velasquez landed a kill to get the serve back but Sonoma would land a kill to get to set point and end the set with a block.
The Seawolves used a 5-0 run in the fourth set to reclaim the lead from the Gators at 17-15 in the fourth set. The Gators would stay within one-point of the lead during the majority of the rest of the set but SF State never got enough of a rally going to reclaim the lead.
San Francisco State will return home for the final two home games of the season. The first match will be on Friday, October 28 at 5:00 p.m. against Chico State.
