SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State volleyball team kept its playoff hopes alive with a 3-0 win over Chico State at Main Gym. The Gators picked up set wins of 25-20, 25-11 and 25-23 on Dig Pink night.
- Gators improve to 13-9 and 9-6 in the CCAA. Wildcats fall to 3-19 and 1-14 in the CCAA.
- The win guarantees the Gators finishing conference at .500 or better for the fourth season in a row.
- SF State currently is tied at sixth with their next opponent, Stanislaus State.
- Rebecca Rendahl had a team-high eight blocks, tied for ninth most in a single match in school history.
- The Gators' 10 total blocks were the most this season.
- Josie Collier had a game high 11 kills, followed by Alhana Velasquez with 10.
- The Gators held the Wildcats to 20 kills and an attack percentage of .060, the second lowest of any opponent this season.
The Gators raced out to a 7-2 start to force a Chico State timeout. The Wildcats came back to tie it at 9-9 and took their first lead of the set at 20-19. The lead was short lived as the Gators closed out the set with six consecutive points, highlighted by a pair of aces from Cynthia Beall.
After a 3-1 start by Chico in set two, the Gators took back the lead and took command of the set. The Gators only allowed three kills by the Wildcats while adding six blocks during the set.
A 5-0 run helped build a 18-12 lead for the Gators in set three. Rendahl had a hand in back-to-back blocks to get the Gators to match point at 24-16. Chico made it interesting near the end with seven straight points but a kill by Velasquez shut the door on the comeback.
San Francisco State will host Stanislaus State for a crucial conference match in its home final. The match will start at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29.
