How It Happened

The Gators raced to a 13-3 lead to start the first set thanks to good hitting and miscues by the Otters. Monterey Bay used a pair of scoring runs to come back and take its first lead of the set at 21-20. Kimberly DeBoer dumped the ball over the net to tie the set up again and an error and kill by Alhana Velasquez put the Gators up by two. The Otters cut the lead by one but Velasquez responded with a kill and an ace from Cynthia Beall gave the Gators the set win.

SF State found themselves in an early hole down 9-2 in set two. The Gators came within one several times throughout the set but the Otters managed to pull away each time. Wilson had three straight kills to cut the Otter's lead at 23-22 but a pair of kills from the Otter's Savana Maker put the Gators away.

A pair of service aces from Velasquez and a couple of kills from Wilson put the Gators on the right foot to start the third set. A 5-0 run gave SF State its biggest lead of the set at 19-13. The Gators held a lead of no less than four the rest of the set.

Wilson landed three kills in a row to help give the Gators a 14-7 lead in set four. The Otters came back to tie the set up at 22-22 apiece but a couple of setter errors help swing momentum back to the Gators. A block from Chloe Henning and Katelyn Sonnier gave the Gators their final point of the match.
