CARSON — The San Francisco State baseball team opened up conference action with a 4-3 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills at Toros Field. The Gators got good play from the pitching staff and defense and the bats were active the entire game.
- SF State improves to 6-3 and 1-0 in the CCAA while CSU Dominguez Hills falls to 5-6 and 0-1 in the CCAA.
- The Gators finished with 10 hits against the Toros.
- Kody Gardner went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored a pair of runs.
- Richie Rios hit 2-for-4 with a double and RBI.
- The Gators turned two double plays in the game and the pitching staff finished with 10 strikeouts and only two walks.
Rios hit a two-out double in the first inning to bring in
Nick Upstill and put the Gators on top in the first inning.
Luke O'Brien's sac bunt in the following inning added another run for the Gators. The Toros got on the board in the third inning and tied the game up with a first pitch home run in the fifth inning. Gardner and
Matthew Farren reached base with singles and advanced a base on a passed ball.
Sammy Gonzales' single brought both runners home to put the Gators back on top 4-2 in the seventh inning. The Gators looked to do more damage in the eighth, but could not capitalize on a loaded bases situation. In the bottom of the ninth, the Toros' Pierson Loska singled to center and brought in a run, but the Gators threw out the runner heading to third and were able to get the final out on the next at bat.
