STANISLAUS, Calif.— The San Francisco State softball team split a pair of low-scoring contests on day one of the Tournament of Champions, presented by Mizuno and hosted by Stanislaus State. The Gators dropped a 2-1 decision to Central Washington and won the nightcap, 3-0 over Hawai'i Pacific.
- With the two games, SF State moves to 15-19 overall.
- The Gators swiped four more bases, bringing the team's season total to 96 for the season.
- Brylynn Vallejos, who was named to the Schutt Sports/NFCA DII Player & Pitcher of the Year Top 50 earlier this week, stole two bases vs. HPU. That brings her season total to 28 and gives her 88 for her career, which ties her for most all-time in program history with Michelle Castro (2018-20).
- Pitcher Taylor Kelly lowered her ERA to 1.55 with her first career complete-game shutout.
GAME ONE vs. CWU
- SF State scratched out a run in the second with two outs. Teya Vincent singled, Kira Nilson reached on an error that allowed Vincent to get to third, and Lexi Holihan scored Vincent with a sac bunt.
- The lead held until the seventh when a two-out Gators error proved costly. Allie Thiessen reached on a fielding error. Allie Thiessen reached on a fielding error at second, Brooke Jordan doubled to left center, and Alyssa Benthagen walked it off with a two-run single to left field.
- Kaitlyn Maddux (6-12) was charged with both runs, unearned. She went six and two thirds innings and struck out two.
- Rhaney Harris (7-7) struck out three in the complete-game victory for the Wildcats.
GAME TWO vs. HPU
- After both teams stranded a pair in the second, a three-run third inning was all the Gators needed versus the Sharks. Vallejos reached on a fielder's choice, then stole second and third. An error in center field allowed Dani Guerrera to reach and Vallejos to score. Sydney Jenkins singled, then Vincent drove in two with a tripled to right center that made it 3-0.
- Taylor Kelly (3-3) tossed her best game of the season with a complete-game shutout. She allowed six hits, walked two, and struck out a pair.
- Malia Torres (6-11) also allowed six hits and went the distance in a losing effort for HPU. The three runs were unearned and she struck out one.
