SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State baseball team dropped a pair of close games at Maloney Field in its double header with Cal State LA. The Gators came back to tie game one 3-3, but fell in the ninth 4-3. They were shut out in game two 2-0.
- SF State falls to 18-30 and 13-27 in CCAA action while Cal State LA improves to 21-29 and 16-24 in the CCAA
- The Gators have lost by a combined four runs in the last three games.
- Daniel Santos now has a ten game hit streak and went 3-for-7 on the day.
A leadoff triple lead to a run for the Golden Eagles in the first inning and Cal State LA added to its lead in the third with a run. Santos hit a single to center field in the bottom of the third to score a runner and cut the Golden Eagle's lead to 2-1. Cal State LA retook a two-run lead in the fifth with an RBI single up the right side.
The Gators tied the game up in the bottom of the eighth. Santos hit into a double play but
Kyler Crone was able to score.
Nick Upstill and
Richie Rios reached on back-to-back hits, with Rios' double scoring Upstill. Cal State LA reclaimed the lead with a run in the ninth. Down 4-3 with one out, the Gators loaded the bases but could not capitalize as the game ended on a double play.
In a pitching duel between the Gators and the Golden Eagles, SF State did not register its first hit until
Luke O'Brien singled in the fourth. The Golden Eagles eventually broke through in the sixth with a pair of runs off two hits.
Sammy Gonzales made it to third in the bottom of the inning with one out but the Gators could not bring him in to score.
- Gary Grosjean started game one and was an out away from going nine innings for the second time in a row. He gave up 15 hits and four runs while tossing four strikeouts
- Jordyn Eglite went seven innings, giving up two runs while throwing five strikeouts in the loss.
The Gators finish the season tomorrow in their series finale with Cal State LA. Game will start at Noon on May 7. The team will honor its seniors with a senior day ceremony at 10:30 am.
