SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State volleyball team fell in four to RV Cal Poly Pomona. After dropping set one 25-17, the Gators rebounded with a 25-23 win. They dropped the next two sets 25-17 and 25-19.
- Gators fall to 4-5 and 0-2 in the CCAA. Broncos improve to 7-1 and 2-0 in the CCAA.
- The Broncos had the advantage in kills, finishing the match with 60 compared to the Gator's 47.
- Tamiya Wilson set a new career high in kills with 19.
- Daisy Duke led the Broncos with 17 kills.
- The Gators matched the Broncos in aces and blocks with seven and five respectively.
The Gators started slow and only landed seven kills in set one. SF State was tied 9-9 to start the set thanks in part to a pair of kills and a block from Alhana Velasquez. Pomona outscored the Gators 8-2 to take a six-point lead in the set. A couple of errors kept the Gators in the set but the Broncos held the edge in the set the rest of the way.
Cynthia Beall had a pair of service aces in a 6-0 run that gave the Gators a 10-5 lead in set two. The Broncos reclaimed the lead at 14-13 and both teams traded leads the rest of the set. Tied at 23-23, a service error gave the Gators the serve and Sheyanne Hike landed an ace to give the Gators the set win.
The Broncos opened the third set with a 13-4 lead. The Gators made some adjustments and came within four points at 17-14. But four straight kills followed by an ace gave the Broncos a 24-15 lead that the Gators would not come back from.
Offensively, the Gators had their best outing in the fourth set and finished with 15 kills on a hitting percentage of .270. The Broncos edged the Gators offensively and hit .484 during the set. Five attack errors and three service errors from the Gators proved to be the difference in the final set.
