SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State volleyball team kicked off its five-game homestand with a 3-1 victory over Sonoma State at Main Gym. The Gators picked up back-to-back 25-19 set wins before dropping the third set 28-26. SF State closed the match with a 25-22 set four victory. The team set season highs in several categories including kills and attack percentage.
- Gators improve to 6-6 and 2-3 in the CCAA. Seawolves fall to 8-5 and 1-4 in the CCAA
- The team posted season highs in kills (64), attack percentage (.338), assists (63) and blocks (nine). The Gator's previous season high kills was also recorded in a five-set match.
- Four Gators reached double figures in kills: Alhana Velasquez (16), Tamiya Wilson (14), Josie Collier (13) and Chloe Henning (12).
- Henning's attack percentage of .750 ranks fourth all-time in a single match.
- Kimberley DeBoer recorded a new career high 56 assists.
The Gators pulled away early in set one and used a 8-1 run to go up 13-8. Gator errors allowed Sonoma to stay in the set but a blocking error from the Seawolves gave the Gators the match point.
SF State held its largest lead of the match in set two as it led 19-8. Sonoma State rallied to come within three points, but the Gators shut the door on the comeback. Wilson landed a kill to give the Gators the serve at 24-19 and Velasquez made the set ending attack.
The Gators found themselves in catch-up mode throughout the third set. A service ace from Sheyanne Hike tied the set and Collier's kill gave the Gators' their first lead of the set at 19-18. Down 24-22, kills from Henning and Rebecca Rendahl tied the set up but the Gators were unable to reach set point to give themselves a chance at a set three win.
SF State came back from an early hole with a 7-1 run that featured four kills from Velasquez. While Sonoma State reclaimed the lead at 15-14, it was short lived, as the Seawolves had no answer to a Gator attack that hit at .426 in set four.
