How it Happened

A couple of Coyotes errors and an Issak service ace gave the Gators an early 3-0 lead. A Tamiya Wilson service ace pushed the lead to 8-2 though the Coyotes countered and trimmed the lead to 8-6. CSUSB cut the lead to one, 16-15, but SF State answered with five straight points, including a pair of Wilson service aces. CSUSB countered with a 7-2 run to threaten late, 22-21, but Rebecca Rendahl pushed the lead back to two with a kill and Izzak finished off the set with a kill.

In set two, the teams traded points until CSUB grabbed a four-point lead at 11-7. SF State pulled to within a point, 18-17, but an untimely service error kicked off a five-point Coyotes run. A Goodrich kill stopped the bleeding but the Coyotes took the final two points.

Set three began in similar fashion with the Coyotes taking an 8-5 lead. The Gators cut the lead to 10-9 and finally evened the set at 12-12 on an Asia Arbaugh service ace, then took the lead on a CSUSB attack error. With the set tied 21-21, the Coyotes took the lead on a Gators error, then grew the lead to set point on back-to-back kills from Savannah Hoffman. Rendahl notched a kill but Taryn King made it a 2-1 Coyotes lead.

The Gators led 7-4 in set four but couldn't hold on. A couple of Gators errors and another Hoffman kill evened the set at 7-7, though the Gators regained the lead 12-9 and led as late as 15-14. A 10-3 Coyotes run put the set out of reach.
