CHICO, Calif.— The San Francisco State volleyball team had a quick turnaround after friday's win at Stanislaus State, and the Gators rose to the challenge with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-14, 20-25, 25-17) win at Chico State on Saturday inside Acker Gymnasium.
- The Gators improve to 12-8 on the season. At 8-4 in the CCAA, the Gators move into a tie for third place in the CCAA with Cal Poly Pomona, though the Gators own the head-to-head tiebreaker. Chico State falls to 4-12 overall and is last in the CCAA at 1-11.
- Tamiya Wilson led all players with 14 kills. Rebecca Rendahl added 10, and Izzy Issak and Aidan Goodrich had nine apiece. Trinity Yates also added eight kills on .462 hitting.
- Three Gators finished with double-digit digs. Izzy Isaak led the way with a career-high 16, followed by libero Asia Arbaugh (14) and Briana DeBoer (12).
- Setter Kimberly DeBoer finished with 43 assists, seven digs, three kills, and a pair of service aces.
- Cynthia Beall, who, the night before, made her first appearance since September 14, also recorded a pair of service aces.
The Gators jumped out to a 4-1 advantage in set one, only for the Wildcats to tie the action at 7-7. The Wildcats gained their first lead of the night, 14-13 on a Jessie Camarillo service ace, and after an attack error, Gators Head Coach Matt Hoffman called timeout to regroup. The tactic worked and the Gators took three of the next four points, forcing a Wildcats timeout. The Gators still trailed by two but four straight SF points, including kills from Rebecca Rendahl and Wilson, put SF State in front 21-19. The Gators didn't lose the lead again and captured set one 25-23.
The Gators took the first two points of the second set and led wire-to-wire in the frame. Up three, SF State got three consecutives kills from Yates, Goodrich, and Yates again to make it 10-4. The lead grew to as large as nine at 19-10 and the Gators were in control of the match with a 25-14 victory.
SF State opened the third set on a 7-1 run but left things in cruise control for too long. An Issak kill made it 16-8 but the Wildcats countered with the next five points and used another six-point run to take a 21-18 advantage. The Gators got two more points but couldn't recover, dropping set three 25-20.
With the momentum now on their side, the Wildcats took a 4-1 lead in set four. The Wildcats led 11-7 when SF State used a four-point run to tie the set at 11-11. The Gators took the lead for good, 14-13, on another Goodrich kill and never looked back. That sparked an 11-4 run to close out the match and give the Gators the win.
The Gators return home for their next two matches, beginning Thursday, October 26 vs. Cal State LA. The match will be at 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on the CCAA Network with live stats available at sfstategators.com. Updates will also be available on X at @sfstate_vb.
