SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State volleyball team remained undefeated at home after a four-set victory over Cal State San Marcos (25-15, 25-17, 22-25, 25-18). The Gators continued to attack well and totaled 65 kills, one shy of their season high recorded in a five-set match.
- The Gators improve to 10-6 on the season and 6-2 in the CCAA. The Cougars fall to 6-10 and 4-4 in the CCAA.
- Tamiya Wilson and Izzy Issak continued to power the offense recording 22 and 18 kills respectively.
- Trinity Yates and Aidan Goodrich also hit double figures with 11 and 10 kills on the afternoon.
- Kimberly DeBoer led the offense with 55 assists, the most recorded in a match this season and most in the conference in a four-set match.
- The Gators had a major advantage in kills (65 to 36) and digs (53 to 37) over the Cougars.
The tandem of Wilson and Issak picked up where they left off and landed eight and nine kills respectively in the first set alone. The Gators would lead by as much as 11 to easily claim the first set.
After the Gators took an early lead in set two, attack errors allowed San Marcos to come back into the set and take their first lead at 9-8. Tied 11-11, the Gators created some separation with a 6-1 scoring run. They closed out the set with four unanswered points with a pair of aces from Kimberly DeBoer in the middle.
The Gators found themselves playing catch-up throughout set three. Down 19-13, the Gators scored five straight points to come with-in one. At set point for the Cougars, an attack error from San Marcos gave the Gators the serve back but the Cougars landed a kill on the ensuing rally.
SF State landed six straight kills to take a 21-13 lead in the fourth set and never looked back. The Gators had their best blocking effort of the afternoon in set four with four blocks.
The Gators have a crucial week coming up with a home and away series with Cal State San Bernardino. First match will be at Cal State San Bernardino at 7:00 pm in Coussoulis Area on October 12.
