LOS ANGELES – The third-seed San Francisco State volleyball team swept the sixth-seed Cougars (25-17, 25-18, 25-23) in the first round of the CCAA Tournament to advance to the Semifinals. The team hit for a blazing season high .402 percent behind 42 assists from Kimberly DeBoer.
- The Gators improve to 18-9 and advance to the CCAA Semifinals for the second time in school history. Coincidentally, the other time the Gators advanced was when they were the third-seed in 2021 and beat the sixth-seed Cougars. The Cougars fall to 12-15 on the season.
- Three Gators finished in double-digit numbers for kills: Aidan Goodrich (13), Tamiya Wilson (13) and Izzy Issak (11). With 373 kills on the season, Wilson surpasses her season total from a year ago and sits in sixth in a single season.
- Kiberly DeBoer reached 1077 assists on the season, good for eighth in a single season.
- The Gators finished with 10 attack errors, third lowest of the season.
- Rebecca Rendahl had another multi-block game with three to lead the Gators with four total blocks.
Neither team could pull away through nine points. The Gators went on a 5-1 run that was only broken up by a Gator service error to lead 14-10 and carry the momentum the rest of the set. SF State had a .464 hitting percentage in the set while the Cougars only hit .143.
Another close set finally saw the Gators pull ahead when Aidan Goodrich landed a kill to go up 17-15 and a attack error from San Marcos increased the lead to three. Cougars trailed by two down 20-18 but errors lead to five straight points for the Gators.
The Gators fell behind 6-1 before using a 8-1 scoring run to take a two-point lead. Wilson landed four straight kills to start the run. The Gators led 23-17 and looked to close the match out before the Cougars rallied for five straight points. Trinity Yates landed a kill to get the Gators to match point. San Marcos' Trinity Barr landed a kill to get the serve back down 24-23 but her serve into the net ended the set and match.
