How it Happened

The Gators opened set one with a 3-0 run but Cal State LA responded with a 4-0 run to retake the lead. A 5-0 run with several Golden Eagles gave the Gators a 12-9 lead. LA called a timeout down 17-14, regrouped and tied things up at 19-19. LA came out of the timeout and landed two kills and capitalized on a setter error. The Gators came back within one, but the Golden Eagles shut the door with two straight kills to get to 25.

In another close set, the Golden Eagles start to separate themselves when they used a 5-1 scoring run to take a 17-13 lead. Coming out of a timeout, Josie Collier assisted on a block and landed a kill to help the Gators come within one down 18-17. A pair of Gator service errors stopped their momentum and the Golden Eagles held onto their lead.

An ace from Brianna DeBoer tied the set up 7-7. The Golden Eagles responded with a 6-1 run to take a five-point lead. The two teams sided out on the next eight serves to keep it a five-point match. The Gators called a timeout down 18-13 but only earned one more point the rest of the set, an attack error from LA.
