How it Happened

The Gators served well in the first set and finished with six aces including three from Issak. But SF State struggled on offense, only hitting .103. Tied 22-22, a service error from Wilson gave the serve back to the Lumberjacks and Humboldt closed the set out with two straight kills.

Josie Collier entered the game in the second set and provided an instant impact for the Gators' offense, recording seven kills in the set. The lumberjacks rallied from down seven to cutting the lead to three points at set point but Collier slammed a kill to end the comeback bid.

After Humboldt used a 5-1 run to go up 12-7, the Lumberjacks never looked back. Eight service errors from the Gators proved to be the difference in the set.

A 9-1 run put the Gators up 14-6 and forced Humboldt to call its second time out of the set. The Lumberjacks came within two points of the lead but the Gators regrouped after the timeout and pulled away.

The Lumberjacks came back from a 4-1 deficit in the fifth set to lead 7-6. The two teams would trade ties five more times in the set until three straight kills from the Gators got them to set point and Collier landed the final blow.
