ROHNERT PARK, Calif.– The San Francisco State volleyball team fell in four sets to RV Sonoma State (20-25, 25-13, 22-25, 22-25). Despite having a better hitting percentage than the Seawovles (.256 compared to .206) the Gators hit 17 service errors in the match.
- The Gators fall to 5-5 on the season and 1-1 in the CCAA. Sonoma improves to 7-2. Sonoma, who is receiving votes in the national polls this week, is coming over back-to-back wins over #10 Cal State San Bernardino.
- Tamiya Wilson had 14 kills while Izzy Issak recorded 13.
- Trinity Yates had a team had five blocks.
- Gators held the edge in assists (49 to 47) while the Seawolves had a huge advantage on digs (54-43).
- Kimberly DeBoer had three service aces to lead the Gators with six.
The Gators came back from a four-point deficit to tie things 10-10 with a block from Trinity Yates and Aidan Goodrich. An attack error on the ensuing rally put the Seawolves back on top. The Gators hung on most of the way, but a 4-0 run that put the Seawolves up 22-17 put enough distance between themselves and the Gators.
Kimberly DeBoer had a pair of aces during a 8-2 run that put the Gators up 11-5. Errors from Sonoma stretched the lead to 10 points for the Gators.
In a close third set, the Seawolves hit two straight kills and recorded a block to go up 19-16 and force a SF State timeout. Down 21-18, the Gators cut their deficit to one at 22-21 with Tamiya Wilson having a hand in all four points. Sonoma came out of the time out and outscored the Gators 3-1 to close out the set.
A 5-0 run gave the Gators an early 6-1 lead but the Seawolves came back and equalized. Gators called timeout as the Seawolves took a 15-12 lead and momentum swung to them. Gators came back to retake the lead several times the rest of the set. Up 22-21, Wilson's serve went wide and the Seawovles recorded three set kills to take the match.
The Gators will play their first home match Thursday, September 21 at 5 p.m. in Main Gym when they host Cal State East Bay.
