SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State volleyball team played its first match at home and picked up a sweep over local conference foe Cal State East Bay (25-19, 25-18, 25-17). Tamiya Wilson led the Gators with a dominate double-double performance of 20 kills and 14 digs.
- The Gators improve to 6-5 on the season and 2-1 in the CCAA. The Pioneers fall to 4-6 and 0-3 on the season.
- SF State dominated Cal State East Bay on kills 49 to 34 and held the edge on aces five to two.
- Kimberly DeBoer dished out 38 assists and added three kills and an ace.
- Lexi Pagani led East Bay with 10 kills.
With set one tied 11-11, the Gators used a couple of runs to go up 19-14, forcing East Bay to side out each time they got the serve back. East Bay would not come within four of the lead the rest of the way.
East Bay had an early lead in set but the Gators used a 6-1 run to take a 9-5 lead and never look back. Despite only hitting .158 percent in the set, the Gators were able to come away with the win thanks to a strong defensive effort that held the Pioneers to eight kills in the set.
Wilson had five kills during a commanding 8-2 run to open the third set. The Gators led by as many as ten points late in the set. The Pioneers tried to rally with three straight kills at match-point but their final attack went out of play to give Gators the match victory.
