How it Happened

The Gators went found themselves in another early hole, down 15-2 in the first seven minutes. Alex Gilat hit a three-pointer, John Bakke beat the shot clock with a floater at the other end, and a few possessions later, Burrell stole a pass near the top of the key and took it for a layup at the other end to cut the lead to 15-9. The Gators held Sonoma State scoreless for over four minutes while CJ Bellamy hit a three to make it a one-point game with 5:48 to play, and the Gators grabbed a 22-21 lead with 3:46 to go on a pair of Daniel-Dalton free throws. Bellamy made it a three-point Gators lead with a driving layup but Cameron Barry's second-chance three-pointer with less than a second remaining knotted the game at 24-24 headed into halftime.

Caleb Oden started the second half with a basket and the Gators opened up the game with a 12-3 run that put SF State up 36-27 inside the 15 minute-mark on Daniel-Dalton's three from the left corner. The Seawolves countered with the next six points but SF State quickly pushed its lead to a dozen on a fast-break three by Burrell and went up by as much as 19 in the final few minutes.
