ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The San Francisco State men's basketball team won its third straight game with a 64-50 victory over Sonoma State on Saturday inside the Wolves' Den.
- The Gators improve to 11-8 on the season while the Seawolves fall to 9-8. The teams are currently tied for seventh place at 5-6 in CCAA action.
- Tyjean Burrell went for a game-high 21 points , two shy of his career-high. He was 6-of-11 from the field, including 5-of-7 from deep. He also had three assists and a pair of steals.
- Jailen Daniel-Dalton added 11 points and led the Gators with eight rebounds, three assists, a block, and a steal. CJ Bellamy chipped in nine points in the win.
- SF State shot 43.1 percent (22-of-51) from the field, including 39.3 percent (11-of-28) from deep. The Gators held SSU to 33.9 percent (19-of-56) from the field and just 20.8 percent (5-of-24) from deep.
- Cameron Barry was the only SSU player in double digits with 10.
- SF State won the rebounding battle, 38-31.
The Gators went found themselves in another early hole, down 15-2 in the first seven minutes. Alex Gilat hit a three-pointer, John Bakke beat the shot clock with a floater at the other end, and a few possessions later, Burrell stole a pass near the top of the key and took it for a layup at the other end to cut the lead to 15-9. The Gators held Sonoma State scoreless for over four minutes while CJ Bellamy hit a three to make it a one-point game with 5:48 to play, and the Gators grabbed a 22-21 lead with 3:46 to go on a pair of Daniel-Dalton free throws. Bellamy made it a three-point Gators lead with a driving layup but Cameron Barry's second-chance three-pointer with less than a second remaining knotted the game at 24-24 headed into halftime.
Caleb Oden started the second half with a basket and the Gators opened up the game with a 12-3 run that put SF State up 36-27 inside the 15 minute-mark on Daniel-Dalton's three from the left corner. The Seawolves countered with the next six points but SF State quickly pushed its lead to a dozen on a fast-break three by Burrell and went up by as much as 19 in the final few minutes.
The Gators return home for their next two games and will host Stanislaus State on Thursday, January 25 and Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday, January 27.
