How It Happened

Serving issues slowed the Gators down in set one as the Seawolves took an early 9-4 lead thanks to three Gator service errors and a pair of aces by Sonoma. The Seawolves were efficient on offense and only had one attack error to go along with a .455 hitting percentage.

Trailing by a few points most of the match, the Gators used a 5-0 run to take a 19-17 lead in set two. Kimberly DeBoer had back-to-back setter dumps to get the Gators to set point and a big swing from Wilson gave the Gators the win for set two.

Three straight attack errors by the Gators put them in an 8-4 and forced a time-out. Facing set point down 24-16, the Gators got five straight points but the Seawolves stopped the run with a kill from Jordyn Waite-Ward.

In a close set four, a Sonoma State service error got the Gators within one down 21-20. The Gators would outscore the Seawolves 4-1 to get to set point. Sonoma called a timeout and landed a kill on the rally following the timeout. Issak sent the Gators to a five set with an attack that bounced off the blockers to get the set win.

The Gators trailed by as much as three early in the fifth set but stormed back to get to match point up 14-10. SF State could not get out of its own way, forcing errors to allow Sonoma to come back and tie the set. After a timeout, Issak landed a kill to get the Gators back to match point and Kimberly DeBoer's ace landed just inside the area of play to seal the deal.
