SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State men's soccer team fell to No. 12 Chico State, 2-0 at Cox Stadium on Friday.
- The Gators move to 0-6-3 in 2024, 0-2-1 in CCAA play while the No. 12 Wildcats improve to 7-1-2, 1-0-2.
- SF State had seven shots by seven different players, three of which were on goal (Johan Duenas, Jason Guzman and Isaac Sandoval).
- Mario De La Torre got his fifth start in goal this season, and played all 90 minutes for the fourth-straight game.
- Aidan Olufson recieved two yellow cards in the match and will need to sit this Sunday versus Stanislaus State.
The Gators maintained offensive possession a majority of the first half, and Michael Rodriguez fired off a shot in the 23rd minute that just skipped off the crossbar. In the 41st minute, Duenas took a shot from the left side that was gobbled up by the Wildcat goalie to keep things scoreless entering halftime.
The No. 12 Wildcats came out strong in the second, with Miles Rice putting Chico State on the board in the 54th off a crossing assist by Robert Lloyd. Miles would complete the brace in the 71st, giving the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage. The Gators battled back looking to cut into the lead with shots in the closing minutes, however couldn't break through past the tough Chico State defense, which is allowing just .80 goals per game this season.
De La Torre (0-5-3) recorded one save in the effort. Emanuel Padilla (7-1-2) had three saves for the clean sheet.
