SAN FRANCISCO — In a battle between the second and third ranked teams in the conference, the #23 San Francisco State volleyball team took down #21 Cal State LA in four sets at Main Gym. The Gators took set one 26-24 before the Golden Eagles equalized in set two with a 25-22 win. The Gators came out on top in the next two sets 25-18 and 26-24.
- The Gators improve to 16-4 and 10-2 in the CCAA to remain in second in the conference and hold a two-game lead over Cal State LA. SF State also holds the head-to-head match-up if they are tied with LA at the end of the season. The Golden Eagles fall to 13-6 and 8-4 in the conference.
- Tamiya Wilson had another dominate performance, putting up 22 kills and recording 27 point. On the week, she averaged 7.5 points a set.
- The Gators landed 16 service aces, third most in a match in school history. Alana Larson had a career-high five, followed by Wilson with four.
- Brianna DeBoer led the defensive effort with 17 digs. She now has 1279 and moves in front of Iris Tolenada for second all-time in digs.
- The reigning National Player of the Week Emily Elliott was held to 14 kills and 18 points.
The Gators went on a 5-0 run to cut the Golden Eagles lead to one at 13-12. SF State played LA close throughout the rest of the set. A pair of kills and an ace from Kimberly DeBoer got the Gators to set point at 24-22. A pair of errors tied the set up again but Wilson came up clutch with back-to-back kills to deliver the first set victory.
In another close set, the Golden Eagles offense clicked a little better than the Gators as they finished with a .387 hitting percentage compared to the Gators' .237. An ace from Larson got the Gators within one down 23-22 but LA's Mackenzie Wolff was responsible for the next two points to get them to 25 points.
Up by two in set three, the Gators pulled away by recording eight straight points to get to set point. Wilson had a pair of service aces in this run and Anastacia Garza land two kills and a block during the run. The Golden Eagles hung around thanks to errors but a setter dump by Kimberly DeBoer caught them off guard for the final point.
The Gators stayed in set four thanks to seven service errors through their first 13 points. Down 24-21 and facing a potential set five, the Gators came back to tie the match up. Wilson landed a kill to get to match point and Garza and Aidan Goodrich swatted a ball down for a block to close out the match.
