SAN FRANCISCO — The #20 San Francisco State volleyball team swept Chico State at home with set scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-18.
Tamiya Wilson, the reigning AVCA National Player of the Week, put together another strong performance and averaged seven points a set.
- The Gators improve to 17-4 and 11-2 in the CCAA and now have their first sweep over an opponent this season. Chico falls to 8-12 and 5-8. in the CCAA.
- Tamiya Wilson had 18 kills on the night. Alhana Velasquez had a season-high 10 kills.
- SF State had a .304 hitting percentage and held Chico State to .189.
- Kimberly DeBoer dished 41 assists on the night.
- The Gators served nine aces including three from Alana Larson.
The Wildcats led by as much as five in the first set. Down 19-14, a couple of attack errors from Chico got the Gators within two and forced a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Wilson landed three of the Gators next four kills to give the Gators the lead. Tied at 23-23, she closed out the set with a kill and an ace.
Three different players landed kills in a 5-1 run that gave the Gators a 16-10 and forced Chico to call its second timeout in set two. Good defense in front of the net allowed Chico to stay in it late in the set but the Gators werre able to handle business and take the second set.
After opening the third set 4-0, the Gators never looked back. The Gators hit .455 percent in the third set and only had one attack error.
