By The Numbers

  • The Gators improve to 21-4 and 15-2 in the CCAA. The 15 conference wins are the most in the Matt Hoffman era and best since 2012. With Cal Poly Pomona losing to Cal State San Bernardino Thursday evening, the Gators now sit one match behind them and have a chance to take a share of the CCAA regular season title with a win Saturday. The loss drops the Cougars to 8-16 and 6-11 and eliminates them from making the post season.
  • The Gators had three players reach double figures for kills: Tamiya Wilson (12), Anastacia Garza (11) and Izzy Issak (10)
  • SF State finished with a .434 hitting percentage, the most in conference this season. They also limited the Cougars to a .042 hitting percentage.
  • Kimberly DeBoer had 36 assists on the evening and reached 1000 assists for the third straight season.
  • SF State's one weak spot on the evening were 13 service errors. They did finish with 10 aces including three from Kimberly DeBoer, Wilson and Alana Larson

How It Happened

Seven service errors from the Gators kept them from completely dominating set one as they held San Marcos to seven kills. Up 18-17, the Gators went on a 5-0 run, landing kills on four of the five points. The cushion was enough to give the Gators the lead.

Seven attack errors plus an efficient offense helped the Gators dominate the second set. The Gators took an 11-1 lead and never looked back in the set.

Trailing 7-4 in set three, the Gators rallied thanks to three straight service aces from Larson to come back and take a 10-7 lead. The Gators would lead by as much as ten in the final set. Garza led the way with five kills in set three.
