By The Numbers

  • The Gators improve to 20-4 and 14-2 in the CCAA. With two matches remaining, the Gators are guaranteed a bye in the first round of the CCAA Volleyball Tournament but will need first-place No. 3 Cal Poly Pomona to lose ahead of the two teams' meeting on the final day of the regular season in order to play for a share of the CCAA Championship. Cal State San Bernardino and Stanislaus State also won on Saturday securing their spots in the field of six. The Gators reach the 20-win mark for the first time since 2021. CSUMB slips to 6-17 overall and 5-11 in CCAA play.
  • Tamiya Wilson was unstoppable, recording a team-high 16 kills on .652 hitting. The .652 hitting is ninth-most in a single match in program history.
  • Izzy Issak added 14 kills and Aidan Goodrich recorded 10 kills in the victory.
  • Asia Arbaugh record a pair of service aces but that was all for the Gators, marking their fewest aces of the season.
  • Kimberly DeBoer added 45 assists to her season total.
  • CSUMB's Jackie Wahl had a team-high nine kills.

How It Happened

The Gators trailed 7-3 in set one before slowly chipping away to tie things at 14-14. Still tied at 19-19, DeBoer set Wilson for a kill, then Goodrich and Anastacia Garza recorded back-to-back blocks, and Goodrich added another kill to make it 23-19. The Otters scored their 20th point on a Gator attack error but Brianna DeBoer connected with Kimberly DeBoer for a kill and Issak closed things out wit a kill of her own.

In set two, consecutive kills from Chloe Henning made it 4-1 early and the Gators swam out to a 7-2 lead. The lead grew to eight and the Otters called timeout shortly thereafter. Unfortunately for the Otters the timeout didn't slow the Gators, who scored the next three points out of the break for a 17-6 advantage. The Otters stopped the bleeding with a Malia Peterson kill followed by a block, but SF State responded with the next five points, and won the second set on an Otters service error.

CSUMB led 7-4 early on in set three. Garza and Goodrich each had a pair of kills as SF State turned the tables, 8-7. That forced another CSUMB timeout, and Goodrich added another kill to make it 9-7. SF State pushed the lead to nine, though some Gators errors allowed the Otters to get back to within six but time was short, and Garza and Issak closed out the match with kills.
