HAYWARD, Calif. — The San Francisco State men's basketball team dropped its final game of the regular season, 90-62, to Cal State East Bay on Thursday evening inside Pioneer Gymnasium.
- SF State suffered its worst loss of the season and falls to 17-13 overall and finishes in sixth place in the CCAA at 11-11. The Pioneers improve to 18-10 and 14-8 in CCAA play, good for fifth.
- Eleven different Gators scored but John Bakke was the only Gator in double-digits. Bakke scored the team's' first five points and finished with a team-high 17 points to go with six rebounds and three assists.
- Alex Gilat added eight points and was perfect from deep with a pair of three-pointers. Jailen Daniel-Dalton and Caleb Oden were limited to six points apiece.
- Dimitrios Klonaras made the most of his Senior Night for the Pioneers with a double-double. He scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, both of which were game-highs. He also had four assists and four steals. Klonaras' 1.8 steals per game ranks second among CCAA players.
- Grady Lewis had 15 points in the win. Daeshawn Eaton and Chris James added 11 points apiece for the Pioneers.
- The conference's two leading blockers, Jonah Roth and Lewis each recorded one. Roth's came with 9:23 to go in the first half. At the conclusion of the regular season, Roth ends up leading the league with 32 blocks (1.1/game).
- Tyjean Burrell led SF State with seven rebounds. The Pioneers held a slight 37-35 rebounding advantage.
- The Gators turned the ball over 19 times and the Pioneers made them pay with 23 points off turnovers. The Pioneers made 10 turnovers but the Gators cashed in for just four points.
SF State spotted the Pioneers a six-point start before
Alex Gilat's three-pointer at 15:34 tied the game at 8-8. However, the Pioneers responded on a 14-3 run over the next five minutes that extended their lead to 11. The deficit grew to as large as 16 and the Pioneers led 40-25 at the half.
The Gators committed six turnovers in the first four minutes of the second half as the Pioneers piled on, and a Klonaras three-pointer rattled home to make it a 22-point game with 16 minutes to go. CSUEB outscored the Gators by seven over the final five minutes to stretch its lead further.
The Gators will now head south for the CCAA Tournament at Coussoulis Arena on the campus of Cal State San Bernardino. SF State is the No. 6 seed in the tournament and will face the No. 3 seed, Cal State LA, on Thursday, March 7 at 5:30 p.m. Fans can stream the game live on the CCAA Network.
