MBB | Win Streak Snapped at Six

CHICO, Calif. — The San Francisco State men's basketball team saw its six-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon in an 84-65 loss to No. 23 Chico State inside Art Acker Gymnasium.

  • With the loss, San Francisco State moves to 14-9 overall and 8-7 in CCAA play, slipping back into sixth place. The second-place Wildcats improve to 16-4 overall and 11-4 in conference play.
  • Caleb Oden led all players with a season-high 19 points, three shy of his career best. Jailen Daniel-Dalton followed up his career game with a 13-point effort on 5-of-8 shooting and John Bakke finished with 10 points.
  • Bakke led the Gators with six rebounds. Daniel-Dalton and Oden each had four rebounds.
  • Adam Afifi led the Wildcats with 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting before fouling out in 22 minutes of action. Evan Oliver added 15 points and Jojo Murphy scored 11.
  • Miles Daniels led all players with nine rebounds for the Wildcats, and four others had five or more. The Wildcats dominated the glass, 39-26.
  • SF State shot well at 48 percent (24-of-50) but the Wildcats couldn't miss in the first half (69.6 percent, 16-of-23) and made seven of their 10 three pointers. Chico State finished the game at 52.9 percent (27-of-51).

How it Happened
     
The Wildcats led for the entire game, outside the opening minute when the Gators tied the game 2-2.  The Gators trailed by seven in the first eight minutes. They pulled to within four inside the ten-minute mark before the lead ballooned back to eight a couple of minutes later. The Wildcats closed the half out on a 14-6 run over the final five minutes for an insurmountable 48-26 lead.

The two teams played even over the first four minutes of the second half, though the Wildcats grabbed their largest lead of the day at 25 with 13 minutes to go. Inside the five-minute mark, the Gators used a 9-0 run to pull to within 13 points with a little over two minutes to go. However, the Wildcats closed out the game on an 8-2 run.
