VB | Gators Go Five Sets in CCAA Opening Win

SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The RV San Francisco State volleyball team took down Cal State San Marcos in five sets to open CCAA action with a win. After a strong 25-16 set win to open the match, the Gators dropped the next two sets with identical scores of 25-21. SF State won set four 25-20 and took the winner take all set five 15-9.

  • The Gators improve to 6-2 while the Cougars drop to 2-6.
  • Izzy Issak tied her career-high with a match-leading 26 points off 20 kills, six total blocks and an ace. She also set a new career-high in digs with 20.
  • Tamiya Wilson also had a double-double with 16 kills and 15 digs.
  • With 12 more digs tonight, Brianna DeBoer moves into fifth all-time with 1157.
  • Isabelle Bakken and Addison Kranz each had 20 points to pace the Cougars.

How It Happened
 

Issak started set one on a tear and recorded four kills as the Gators took a 5-2 early lead. She would go one to finish the set with eight kills and 9.5 points as the Gators pulled away late in the set. SF State finished with a .441 attacking percentage that set.
 
Tied 10-10 in set two, the Cougars scored three straight points to force a timeout by the Gators. Errors by the Gators made a comeback more difficult. The Gators finished the set with a -.094 hitting percentage and recorded nine attack errors.
 
The Gators fell behind 8-2 in set three before calling a timeout. SF State came with two of the lead but the Cougars never relinquished their lead.
 
Three different Gators landed kills in a 4-0 run that put them up 17-9 in the fourth set. Up 22-14, the Cougars went on a 5-0 run before a kill from Anastacia Garza ended the run. Garza landed the set point to force a fifth set.
 
Issak had a hand in the first four points for the Gators as they took a 6-3 lead before a San Marcos time-out. The Cougars landed three straight kills to tie the set up but Wilson recorded back-to-back kills to swing the lead back to the Gators that they would keep the rest of the set.
