SAN FRANCISCO - The RV San Francisco State volleyball team closed out the weekend with a statement 3-1 win over #6 ranked Chaminade. The Gators took set one 25-20 before dropping the next set 25-18. They would go on to win the next two sets both by scores of 25-16.
- The Gators improve to 9-3 and pick up their first win over a ranked opponent this season. The win over Chaminade not only marks the highest win over a ranked opponent in the Matt Hoffman era but also in the CCAA era. Chaminde falls to 10-4.
- Izzy Issak paced the offense with 16 kills and three blocks. Aidan Goodrich had 14 kills.
- Serving proved to be a huge difference maker in the match. The Gators had eight aces, with Cynthia Beall, Asia Arbaugh and Taylor Vales each serving two. They also recorded a season-low four service errors. The Swords had five aces but finished the match with 16 service errors.
- Arbaugh led the Gators with 13 digs, followed by Issak and Tamiya Wilson with 11 and Kimberly DeBoer with 10.
- With nine more digs and 1,197 career digs, Brianna DeBoer moves into a tie for fourth all-time.
In a close first set, Wilson and Issak landed kills when the Gators were down 13-11 to tie the set up. The Gators would force Chaminade to side out every time they got the serve back while SF State was able to string together a couple of kills to take the set.
A 7-1 start by Chaminade that featured three straight aces from Malena Mihalik put the Gators in an early hole in set two. The Gators came within one of the lead at 15-14 but Chaminade responded with three straight points as the Gators could not get enough going to comeback from the deficit.
Tied at 5-5, the Gators used a 6-1 run to take control of set three. The Gators were efficient and finished the set with no attack errors.
After starting set four 5-1, the Swords had a 5-1 run of their own to tie the set up. Down 10-8, a service error from Chaminade sparked a 7-0 run by the Gators. Chaminade finished with seven attack errors on the set as their comeback bid fell flat.
The Gators will be on the road for the next two weeks with their first match scheduled for Friday, October 4 at 5 p.m. at Stanislaus. Live stats are available at
