SEASIDE, Calif. - The San Francisco State volleyball team went five sets with Cal State Monterey Bay but fell 3-2 on the road (25-27, 25-21, 20-25, 25-13, 2-15).
- The Gators fall to 6-12 on the season and 5-6 in the CCAA. Monterey Bay improves to 4-14 and 3-8 in the CCAA.
- Aidan Goodrich led the Gators with 17 kills.
- While the Gators held the advantage in kills (63 to 51), they also had 29 attack errors compared to the Otter's 18.
- The Gators had 12 service errors and only served six aces.
The Gators reached set point at 24-23 with a kill from
Melanie Hewlett in the first set. The two teams exchanged kills on the next two rallies. The Gators had a pair of attack errors to give the Otters the lead and the Otters closed the door on the set with a kill. In a tight second set, the Gators broke away near the end. Tied at 20-20, they used a 5-1 run to close things out with three kills coming from
Grace Witcher.
After leading 14-13 in set three, the Gators saw their lead disappear after a 4-0 run by the Otters. The Gators would get within one of the lead but never reclaim it. SF State had a match best hitting percentage of .581 in set four to force a fifth set. The Gators could not get much going offensively in the fifth set, only landing one kill.
