SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco State volleyball team won its second straight game and swept UC Merced 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-12). The duo of
Aidan Goodrich and
Grace Witcher combined for 33 kills.
- The Gators improve to 5-8 and 4-2 in the CCAA. UC Merced fell to 4-11 and 3-3 in the CCAA.
- Goodrich had a season-high 18 kills. Witcher finished with 15.
- Serving proved to be a double-edge sword for the Gators. The Gators tied their season high total of 13 aces but also tied their season high of service errors with 19.
- Tamiya Wilson added two more aces to her career total to reach 126 aces and moved past former teammate Brianna DeBoer into third all-time.
- Melanie Hewlett had 36 assists, averaging 12+ assists per set for a second match in a row.
- No Merced play had more than six kills.
After falling behind early in set one, Wilson and Witcher landed kills during a 3-0 run to tie the match up 10-10. An ace from Hewlett gave the Gators their biggest lead of the set up 19-16. The Bobcats tied the set up 22-22 but Witcher came up clutch with a pair of kills to end the set.
Both sides had issues with their serves to start set two. Up 18-16, the Gators pulled away after a 6-0 run that featured three kills by Witcher.
The Gators closed out the match with their most dominate set and had a .577 hitting percentage for the set.
