ARCATA, Calif. - The San Francisco State volleyball team started slow against Cal Poly Humboldt but came out on top with a 3-0 win (29-27, 25-17, 25-13).
- The Gators improve to 11-13 on the season and 10-7 in the CCAA. With one game remaining the Gators sit tied for fourth in the CCAA. Humboldt falls to 2-23 and 2-15 in conference.
- Aidan Goodrich had a well-balanced game to lead the Gators. She led with 15 kills, 13 digs, four solo blocks and an ace.
- Taylor Vales and Tamiya Wilson each had five aces with Vales' coming all in the third set.
- Melanie Hewlett had 28 assists for the Gators.
- Humboldt had 21 attack errors. The Gators had 10 including limiting themselves to one in the third set.
The Gators called a time out after Humboldt took its largest lead of the first set, 13-9. Goodrich bookended a 6-0 run for the Gators with a kill and block before the Lumberjacks took a timeout. Witcher added a kill and Wilson an ace as the Gators came out of the timeout to extend the run to 9-0 and lead 18-13. The Lumberjacks came back within one down 21-20 and tied it coming out of the Gators' second time-out. Goodrich's kill got the Gators to set point up 24-23 but a ball handling error prolonged the set. Down 27-26,
Lilly Rix had a kill and a block and a Humboldt attack error sealed the set for the Gators.
Errors helped the Gators build an early 9-4 lead in set two. A block by Goodrich forced the Lumberjacks to call a time-out down 13-6. Gators looked to run away with it but Humboldt used a 6-1 run to cut the Gators' lead to 23-17. Goodrich threaded an attack between two blockers to reach set point and
Alana Larson serve made contact with a Lumberjack to end the second set.
A service error gave the Gators the serve back at 6-6. It sparked a 10-0 run for the Gators, highlighted by five aces from Vales.
