SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - San Francisco State men's basketball team played Dominican close in the first half but fell 96-66 in the season opener.

- Milandev Chatha led all players with 18 points, going 5-for-6 from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the line.
- Dominican shot 57.6 percent from the field including 64.5 percent in the second half. They went 9-for-13 from three in the second half.
- The Gators only had six assists compared to the Dominican's 18.
- SF State finished with 18 turnovers.
- Four Dominican players reached double figures while Stephen Ransom had five blocks.
Down 21-14 midway through the first half, the Gators went on a 9-2Â run to tie the game up. Chatha scored six of the nine points in the run. The Gators kept it close for another couple minutes but tied 26 all Dominican closed out the first half 19-6.
Fed Pernell scored on back-to-back possessions to open the second half and Chatha made a pair of shots at the line to cut the deficit down to 52-42 with 15:50 remaining. Dominican outscored the Gators 14-5 heading into the under 12 media timeout. Bricen Buciak made both free shots coming out of the time out but a 13-0 run by the Penguins put the game out of reach for the Gators.
