How It Happened

It was all Gators in the opening set. Despite only landing nine kills, the Gators served four aces and the Broncos had nine attack errors. The Gators traded leads eight times through the second set. Cal Poly Pomona reached set point up 24-20. A couple of errors allowed the Gators the opportunity to extend the set but Kylie Leopard landed a kill to end the second set.

The Broncos were able to take a 5-0 lead to go up 16-12 in the third set with four of the five points coming from unforced errors by the Gators. The Gators regrouped and came back within one down 19-18 before a Pomona time-out. The Broncos would record the next three points but the Gators would close out the set on a 7-1 run. Wilson had a hand in the final three points. Pomona raced out to a 12-3 lead in the four set and never looked back. Sarah Ybarra had seven kills in the set.

The Gators opened the fifth set strong and challenged a pair of calls that flipped in their favor. The Broncos came back and took a 13-11 lead late in the set. They hit back-to-back attack errors before taking a timeout. Goodrich landed a kill to get the Gators to match point and an attack error by Ybarra ended the match.
