MBB | Gators Drop Conference Opener to East Bay

SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco State men's basketball team fell to Cal State East Bay 60-46 to open conference action.

  • SF State falls to 1-5 while East Bay improves to 6-0.
  • Bricen Buciak was the lone Gator to reach double figures, finishing with 12 points.
  • The Gators edged the Pioneers in rebounds 35-34. Milandev Chatha led the Gators with eight.
  • Turnovers plagues the Gators as they finished with 22. East Bay scored 28 points off turnovers.
  • The Pioneers were led by Tyree Campbell who scored 22 points.

 How It Happened



East Bay scored on the first four possessions to lead 8-0 and force a Gator time-out. Buciak scored coming out of the timeout but the Gators struggled to hold onto the ball against a physical Easy Bay defense. Down 33-16 with 2:18 to go in the half, Chatha made a pair of free throws and Miles Pollard made a buzzer-beater three in the final seconds to make it a 12-point game.

Chatha scored on a jumper to cut the deficit down to 10 to start the second half. East Bay scored on five of their next six possessions to take a 44-25 lead. The Pioneers led by as many as 25 points as the Gators could not slow them down for a comeback.
