ARCATA, Calif. — The San Francisco State men's basketball team fell to a double-digit deficit early and were never able to get over the hump in a 72-60 lose to Cal Poly Humboldt.
- SF State falls to 3-21 on the season and 2-16 in CCAA action. Cal Poly Humboldt improves to 13-11 and third place at 11-7 in the CCAA.
- Diego Martinez continued to provide the Gators' offensive power with 19 points. He's averaged 20.9 ppg over the last seven games.
- The Gators limited turnovers to eight and only allowed two steals.
- SF State had few opportunities at the line and finished 6-for-8. Humboldt added 20 points via free throws and went 20-for-28 at the line.
- Shakir Odunewu led Humboldt with a double-double, scoring 25 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
After trading baskets to open the game, Humboldt went on a 11-0 run to lead 16-6. Martinez cut their lead down to single digits with a lay-up but the Lumberjacks quickly regained the double-digit lead on the next possession. The Gators were able to cut the lead to 27-21 thanks to back-to-back baskets by Martinez. The Lumberjacks started to pull away again and led 38-28 at the end of the half.
The Lumberjacks led by as many as 15 and maintained a double digit through most of the second half. The Gators looked to retake it with a little over five minutes to go when Milandev Chatha drove in a lay-up to make it a single-digit lead and Martinez sunk a three on the next possession to cut the lead down to 59-53. The Gators never got closer than that and went 2-for-6 in the final three minutes of action.
