SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State volleyball team dropped the first set to Cal State LA but came back to win three straight for a 3-1 victory at home (17-25, 25-14, 26-24, 25-14).
- SF State improves to 3-7 and 1-3 in the CCAA. Cal State LA falls to 3-8 and 2-2 in the CCAA.
- Three Gators recorded double-digit kills: Grace Witcher (17), Aidan Goodrich (16) and Alana Larson (13).
- SF State had a season-best attacking percentage of .314.
- Lilly Rix had a season-high five blocks, matching her career best from last season.
- The Gators matched their season high with nine service aces. Melanie Hewlett led the way with three.
After a service error gave the Gators the lead at 15-14 in set one, Goodrich served the ball out of play and LA recorded the next three kills to take a three point lead. LA closed out the set on a 5-0 run with four different players recording a kill.
The Gators took an early lead in set two and never looked back. Goodrich had six kills in the set while Rix had three of her blocks in that set.
Down 22-17, the Gators recorded the next six points to retake the lead in a crucial third set. After a pair of service aces during the rally, Goodrich served an error to give LA the serve back and tie the match up. Tied at 24-24, Witcher landed a kill and Hewlett served an ace in the back corner to seal the win.
Multiple errors by the Golden Eagles put them behind early on in set four and LA was never able to recover. The Gators finished the set with a match-high hitting percentage of .478.
The Gators travel to Stanislaus for a pair of non-conference pod matches. They will play Stanislaus State on September 24 at 5 p.m. Live stats will be available at sfstategators.com and fans can watch the action on FloCollege.
