TURLOCK, Calif. – The San Francisco State volleyball team played Cal State East Bay to wrap up their week at Stanislaus. They took the first set but dropped the next three for a 3-1 loss (25-23, 19-25, 17-25, 22-25).
- SF State falls to 4-8 while Cal State East Bay improves to 4-7.
- The Gators were without the services of Aidan Goodrich for the match. Grace Witcher carried the load offensively and finished with a match-high 19 kills.
- SF State finished with a hitting percentage of .123 and did not hit over .200 in any of the four sets.
- The Gators landed five aces but also had 12 service errors. They allowed 10 service aces to East Bay.
- The Pioneers finished with 13 blocks compared to the Gators.
The Gators trailed throughout the first set but were finally able to take a 21-20 lead off an attack error from the Pioneers. A bad set from East Bay gave the serve back to SF State at 23-23 and Sophia Terry jumped for a solo block for the 25th point.
Tied at 17-17, East Bay went on a 5-0 run to shift momentum to them. An attack error ended the run and Paige Moyneur landed a kill on the rally. East Bay was able to block the Gators attack on the next rally and never gave the serve back.
The Gators only trailed byt a couple points most of set three but a 6-1 run by East Bay put the Pioneers up 22-15 to force a Gator time-out. East Bay served an error right out of the timeout and Alana Larson landed a kill. East Bay forced the Gators to side out on the next rally and did not allow another Gator point the rest of the way.
SF State battled and came back to make it a one-point set down 22-21. Coming out of a timeout, both sides traded points. East Bay's Makaiya Gerhardt landed a kill to get to match point and a block ended the match.
