HAYWARD, Calif. – The San Francisco State volleyball team fought hard against RV Colorado School of Mines but ultimately fell 3-2 (18-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-23, 9-15). The Gators held the advantage on points (78-76) and kills (64-55) but ultimately could not come up with a victory.
- SF State fell to 0-4 while Colorado School of Mines improves to 5-0
- Aidan Goodrich had a match-high 24 kills. Alana Larson followed that with 17.
- Goodrich and Grace Witcher each had double-doubles. Witcher had 13 kills and 19 digs while Goodrich added 13 digs.
- The Gators had nine service aces but also recorded 14 service errors.
- SF State finished with a .199 attacking percentage while Mines finished with a .247 hitting percentage.
After a back and forth first set, Mines pulled ahead after a 6-0 run to lead 16-10. The Gators only managed to get back within four during that set.
Goodrich landed back-to-back kills to start a 4-0 set two for the Gators. They took control of the set with a 8-1 run that put them up 19-8.
The Gators trailed through most of the third set. Down 19-13, the Gators cut Mines lead down to 19-17 thanks in part to back-to-back blocks. But they were never able to get quiet over the hump and dropped the third set.
Trailing 12-9 in set four, the Gators used a 6-0 run to swing momentum back in their favor. Goodrich once again was instrumental and landed three kills in that run. The Gators led by as many as five points to force a set five.
Mine's offense was sharp in set five and finished with one attack error. They led 8-2 and never looked back.
