HAYWARD, Calif. – The San Francisco State volleyball team took down Westmount in three straight sets (25-21, 25-13, 25-15) for its first win of the season. After a tight first set, the Gators cruised to a pair of dominant set victories.
- SF State improves to 1-4 while Westmont falls to 1-4
- While no Gator eclipsed double-digit figures, seven different Gators recorded a kill. Grace Witcher had a team-high nine while Alana Larson and Aidan Goodrich each had seven. Setter Melanie Hewlett had five with a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage.
- The Gators had eight aces and limited the Warriors to one. Witcher had four, followed by Larson with three.
- The Warriors had 22 errors with only six coming from blocks.
- Lilly Rix and Goodrich each had four blocks.
In a tight first set, the Gators saw a little separation when they were up 12-11. Witcher landed a kill, Larson served an ace and the Warriors recorded an attack error after a timeout. The Warriors tied it up at 18 apiece but errors put the Gators back in front and gave them the set.
Back-to-back aces from Alana Larson sparked a 5-0 run in set two that put the Gators up 16-9. The Warriors called a timeout down 21-12 and got a point on the next rally but the Gators closed it out with four straight points.
Down 15-14 in the third set, a point was originally rewarded to Westmont. After a challenge by the Gators' Head Coach, the call was reversed and the set was tied. The Gators closed out the set on a 10-0 run. Witcher had three of her aces in the run while Rix and Goodrich teamed up for blocks on three of the last four points.
