HAYWARD, Calif. – The San Francisco State volleyball team closed out the weekend with a 3-0 win (25-21, 25-17, 25-15) over Northern Michigan. The Gators had their best offensive showing of the young season and finished with a .303 hitting percentage and only four attack errors.
- SF State improves to 2-4 while Northern Michigan falls to 3-5
- Grace Witcher and Alana Larson each had 12 kills to lead the Gators.
- The Gators were able to out-muscle the Wildcats at the front of the net and held the advantage in blocks six to one. Sophia Terry had four.
- SF State had nine aces with Larson leading the way with three. Service errors proved to be the only flaw in the Gators' game as they recorded 13.
- Melanie Hewlett dished out 30 assists.
- McKenzie Anderson registered 18 digs.
Tied at 8-8 in set one, Aidan Goodrich had a kill and an ace in a 5-0 run. A couple of errors from the Wildcats in another 5-0 run put the Gators up 19-11. Serving and receiving issues by the Gators allowed Northern Michigan to stick around but Larson was able to land a kill for a set one win.
Lilly Rix had back-to-back kills and Larson bookended a 4-0 run with a kill and ace to give the Gators a 13-8 lead. The Wildcats came within one but a 5-1 run before a Northern Michigan time-out put the Gators on top the rest of the way.
The Gators started set three earning the first four points and never gave up the lead from there. Up 10-7, the Gators landed five straight kills to take a commanding lead.
The Gators open up conference action on the road next week. They start their road trip against Cal State San Bernardino at 5 p.m on Friday, September 11. Live stats will be available at sfstategators.com and fans can watch the action on FloCollege.
