Gators Defeat Bay Area Rival

Gators Defeat Menlo in Last Away Match
Atherton, Calif.--- SF State's wrestling team improved to 4-7 overall in dual meets as the Gators defeated Bay Area Rival Menlo College 20-16 this evening in Atherton, California.
            Curtis Schurkamp (Jr, Escalon, Calif/Cal State Fullerton) improved to 19-12 with a 10-6 decision over Jose Hernandez at 125. SF State lost the next two matches by 4-1 and 2-0 decisions. Then at 149, freshman Josh Nolan (Quincy, Calif) recorded a 9-3 victory over Sabas Cruz. The Gators then lost by a decision at 157 and a major decision at 165, but came back and won by a 13-5 major decision by Marques Gales (Jr, Fairfield, Calif/Santa Rosa Junior College) over the Oaks' Mike Jeffery. 
            SF State also won at 184 as Alecxis Lara (Sr, Gilroy, Calif/Skyline College) won by a 12-4 major decision over the Oak's Sean Weeks. SF State lost by a 5-4 double overtime decision at 197, but sophomore transfer Steve Franklin (Middletown, Calif/Santa Rosa Junior College) won by fall at 4:45 over Jesse Ruiz to give the Gators the 20-16 win. This was Franklin's 10th win by fall and he improved to 23-12 on the season.
            The Gators will return home for the final time of the 2007-08 season as the Gators host the Titans of Cal State Fullerton on Sunday, February 10 at 5pm. This will also be Senior Night as the Gators will recognize both team's seniors before the start of the match.
