Rohnert Park, Calif.--- In Day Two of the Seawolf Spike Tournament, the SF State Gators went 2-0 to finish the weekend 3-1 in the first season of competition since the 2003 season. SF State won its first match in four sets over the Montana State-Billings Yellowjackets (0-4) 25-16, 25-22, 24-26, and 25-22. Then in the Gators final match of the weekend, SF State defeated the Notre Dame de Namur University Argonauts (0-4) 21-25, 29-27, 25-19, and 33-31.
“I am excited that our players fought hard to get two wins today,” said SF State Head Coach Michelle Patton. “It was an entire team effort, but I am especially pleased with how our middle hitters performed late in the matches. It's great to see that that we are finding a way to win some close matches this early in the season.”
In their first match, Beth Perkins had 14 kills while Halimah Oswald and Brittany Powell had 11 and 10 kills respectively. Anne Hegli added 42 assists and Christina Johnson recorded five aces. Oswald also had five combined blocks and Kyle Lamet had 19 digs.
Against Notre Dame de Namur, All-Tournament Team selection Beth Perkins had 27 kills, two service aces, 18 digs, and three total blocks to lead the way for the Gators. Hegli added 55 assists and Johnson added 23 digs for SF State.
The Gators will return to the court this coming weekend, September 5-6 in Santa Barbara, California, when they participate in the Westmont College Tournament.
