Colorado Springs, Colo.--- SF State's Mauricio Wright was selected as one of the top 12 wrestlers for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) All-Time Wrestling Team as part of the RMAC's 100th anniversary in 2009. The RMAC is the fourth-oldest conference in the country and the most historic in the western United States.
The RMAC All-Time Men's Wrestling Team was selected by representatives from the conference's schools that participate in the sport of wrestling. Official records for RMAC wrestling dates back to 1972, but it is known that the conference has sponsored the sport of wrestling since at the least the 1950s.
Wright was a four-time All-American and a two-time National Champion in 2002 and 2003. He also was a four-time RMAC Champion, who wrestled at both the 174 and 184 weight class and also was the RMAC Freshman of the year in 2000.
“This is a very prestigious honor that Mauricio (Wright) has received,” said SF State Head Coach
Lars Jensen. “He is one of only two four-time conference champions that the RMAC has had and this is a credit to him and to his work effort.”
The 2003 SF State graduate was also a four-time NCAA Division II West Regional Champion. Wright is the Gators' career holder in wins (144), points (1,665), and three-point near falls (177). He is also in the top 10 in takedowns and two-point near falls.
Eight schools are represented on the 12-man all-time team. RMAC schools have won 12 national team championships.
As part of the Centennial Celebration, all-time teams are being selected in 19 RMAC sports. The RMAC's Centennial Celebration will take place on July 11, 2009, at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs. More information will follow in the next few months. A new all-time team will be recognized each month leading up to the celebration.
