Gators Starts Off Season 0-2

SF State Lost Two One-Run Ball Games This Afternoon
Turlock, Calif.--- SF State's softball team opened up their season losing two one-run ball games in Day One of the Mizuno Best of the West Invitational in Turlock. The Gators lost 4-3 to CSU San Bernardino and 3-2 to Chico State to open up 2009 0-2.
            The Coyotes got on the board first with a two-run first inning which saw CSU San Bernardino score two unearned runs. They made it 4-0 with a two-run third inning. The Gators scored once in the fourth on a RBI double by Kelsey Wood (San Jose, California, Lynbrook).  They added two more runs on Kendra Wood's two-run home run. 
            SF State stranded the tying run on first with two outs in the seventh inning. Rachel Lopez (1-1) picked up the win, pitching 4 innings, giving up two hits and one run while striking out four and walking two. Kendra Wood (San Jose, California, Lynbrook) (0-1) recorded the loss, pitching four innings of relief while giving up four runs (two unearned) while striking out five and walking two. 
            In game two, Chico State jumped out two a 2-0 lead with a two-run second inning capped by a Charlotte Honciano two-run single. SF State scored its first run in the third when Kylie Herreda drove in Danielle Chapman with a RBI single. The Wildcats added another run in the bottom of the third on a solo home run. 
            The Gators added one more run in the sixth on a RBI single by Kelsey Wood, but Lauren Walker (1-1) shut the Gators down in the final 1 2/3 innings. Walker finished the game, pitching a complete game, striking out four, walking two and giving up five hits and two runs. 
            Carolyn Knudson (Napa, California, Vintage) (0-1) pitched four innings, giving up six hits and three runs while striking out one and walking one.
